Today I wanted to talk about Collagen and the Benefits for Your Skin and Body.

Most people know about collagen right now. It’s been super popular over the last few years with tons of supplements being released on the market. It’s almost impossible to walk in somewhere and not see a variety of collagen being front and center.

But what is collagen and why does it benefit your skin and overall your body structure? 

Collagen is the foundation of bones, skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and it’s even found in your corneas, teeth and blood vessels, it is a protein that helps bind everything together. Pretty cool right? Really collagen is such a vital part of your body that we should want it to be in our nutrition.

So how can we get more collagen and what types of collagen are there? 

There are a total of four different kinds of collagen. This is something that I never knew before doing a bunch of research and I just find it so fascinating to learn about our bodies and how they function from the inside out.

  1. 90% of collagen is this first type of collagen, it is meant to hold mostly everything together from your bones, cartilage, muscles, skin and ligaments.
  2. The second type of collagen is what is in your ligaments and protects your joints in places like your knees and elbows.
  3. The third type is for arteries, organs and muscles. It is the protein that helps build them all up.
  4.  The fourth type is filtration and provides nutrients to your skin making it elastic and supple.

As we get older our bodies produce less quality collagen, which can be felt in our achy joints and muscles, but also seen on our skin with wrinkles and fine lines and the firmness of our skin decreasing drastically.

So for the most benefits we want to incorporate these foods:

  • Vitamin C: You can take this as a supplement or get it from bell peppers, citrus fruits, strawberries, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and cantaloupe.
  • Proline:  You can find this in mushrooms, asparagus, cabbage, spinach, watercress, bamboo shoots, and wheat germ
  • Glycine: You can find this in beans, nuts and seeds.
  • Copper: Large amounts are found in organ meats, sesame seeds, cocoa powder, cashews, and lentils

Your body also needs high quality protein that contains amino acids to make new proteins, without these amino acid proteins it wont get turned into collagen. Meat, poultry, seafood, dairy, legumes, and tofu are all excellent sources of amino acids.

All of this can sound overwhelming and like a lot to incorporate when it comes to what you eat, which is why there are so many supplements on the market right now.

Natural Cough Remedies for Kids

It’s cold and flu season, my little munchkin was among the lucky and came down with a cold, but with kids you can’t give them cough medicine. Any child under 6 it is deemed unsafe for them to take any kind of cough medicine and it actually wouldn’t work on them anyway because their little bodies are still developing. So what can you do so that you both can get some sleep at night?

1. Onions (safe for all ages)
Seriously, this works. It will make your house smell like an Italian restaurant, but it works so well that I don’t care because I’d rather sleep peacefully.
Chop an onion, place it in a bowl of warm water and put it in the room where the child will be sleeping. It’s safe for people of all ages, from newborn on up! This is my favorite thing for coughs because it works so well.

2. Honey and lemon “tea” (not suitable for children under 1, sometimes up to 2 years old ask your pediatrician when honey is acceptable).
Heat up a cup of water and add honey and lemon to taste.

3. Lavender essential oil (safe for all ages)
Add 2-4 drops of essential oil to a vaporizer for coughing relief. This was my go-to before I found out about the onion, it works well, but I still think the onion works the best.

4. Eucalyptus oil (vaporizer method safe for all ages, on child must be 5+)
Add 3-5 drops to a vaporizer for coughing relief. For older children (over the age of 5) you can mix a few drops of oil with olive oil and rub it into the soles of their feet to stop coughing (much like the vicks remedy but all natural).

5. Chicken soup – the sodium content helps to coat the throat, break up mucus and calm coughing. Obviously to be used on children who are old enough to eat, you can serve broth to younger children (1+)

It is found that a mix of honey and cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also note honey as very effective medicine for all kinds of diseases. HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, put it on toast instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol and could potentially save one from heart attack. Also, even if you have already had an attack studies show you could be kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of cinnamon honey strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as one ages the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and the veins.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients can benefit by taking one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken daily even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain — and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.

ALLERGIES: Local honey is great to help out with allergies because the bees carry pollen from local plants, it’s like an immune boosting shot of goodness.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder….who knew?

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water given to a cholesterol patient was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol-could be cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses, and if you add a little bit of ginger to the mix it helps even faster 🙂

UPSET STOMACH: If you take honey and cinnamon together you can cure upset stomachs and ulcers, yes please!

GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that when Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

LONGEVITY: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Use four teaspoons of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of boiling water to make a tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans increase and even a 100 year old will start performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

RASPY OR SORE THROAT: When throat has a tickle or is raspy, take one tablespoon of honey and sip until gone. Repeat every three hours until throat is without symptoms.

PIMPLES: Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it off the next morning with warm water. When done daily for two weeks, it removes all pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS:Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin Infections.

WEIGHT LOSS:Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast and on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. When taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder three times a day for one month.

FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, even when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, when taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., the vitality of the body increases within a week.

BAD BREATH: Gargle a teaspoon of honey and cinnamon mixed in warm water and it will cure your bad breath!

Kool-Aid Lipgloss


Make your own Kool-Aid lipgloss! You can store these in little pill bottles or buy cute little containers and give these away as gifts. All you need is a 1/4 teaspoon of kool-aid, 1/4 teaspoon of sugar (or a few drops of stevia) and a teaspoon of petroleum jelly, mix it together, let it sit for a few minutes so it can dissolve and voila, homemade DIY Kool-Aid lipgloss! Make sure you add something sweet to the mix otherwise it will be really tangy and sour haha.


Healthy Skin Sugar Scrub


Do you have dry skin? Do you have oily skin? Do you have acne? Then you probably need to do some exfoliating and re-healthify your skin. I use this recipe twice a week and it gives me beautiful skin, seriously. I don’t know what it is about sugar scrubs, maybe the fact that they get rid of the dead skin and let everything else absorb, but they work fantastic all of the time. Sugar might not be good for you to ingest but it’s definitely great for the outside of your body!

All you need for a basic sugar scrub is;

1/4 cup sugar – any kind (white, brown, organic, doesn’t matter)

1/4 cup oil – olive oil/avocado/jojoba

Additional optional ingredients; only use one at a time or it will smell terrible.

1-2 drops of lavender essential oil; calming and relaxes your mind.

1-2 drops of tangerine essential oil; energizes and wakes you up.

1-2 drops tea tree oil; great for acne.

Mix it together and use it in circular motions on your face for 30 seconds to 1 minute. That’s it. Easy peasy.

Now you can enjoy shorts again! I can’t even tell you how well this works! It’s so simple to do and it’s Ah-ma-zing! For real. If you’re not a coffee drinker go get some coffee and some oil and sugar and DO THIS because it works!! Now, I know that I’m overweight and more prone to cellulite, but even thin people get it so this anti-cellulite recipe is for everyone! Plus it smells awesome. I used it twice in a week and it took 98% of my cellulite away. I was seriously amazed and wish I had taken a “before” shot to be able to show you how well it worked. It does need to be caffeinated coffee though, the caffeine helps to tighten and firm the skin and shrink the fat cells, the sugar and oil help it to absorb and exfoliate and the massaging part helps to break down the fat bubbles.

Acne and Anti-Aging Natural Skin Care Recipe


This Anti Acne and Anti-Aging Natural Skin Care Recipe is my own personal recipe that I created a few years back for my husband who had a lot of acne and was on a lot of ineffective medications.

It got me national recognition on a major TV show and was proven effective, pretty awesome if you ask me! 

What you need:
Baked Sweet potato (make sure it’s soft, but not hot! you don’t want to burn yourself)
A mango
4-5 tablespoons of honey

Scoop out the insides of the sweet potato and mango and put them in a blender with the honey, blend it up and put on your face for 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

It combats free radicals (the nasty things that cause wrinkles), it has loads of vitamin A in it, it exfoliates your skin and hydrates it at the same time 🙂
